How to become a more comfortable,
confident and authentic speaker
There’s only speaking. Having a conversation with the audience. One person at a time. Becoming a more comfortable and effective speaker begins with demystifying the act of speaking in front of audiences. Labeling a certain kind of speaking as “public” speaking creates unnecessary stress, raises unrealistic expectations and actually hinders the communication process.
There’s no such thing as “public” speaking …
 Corporate executives and managers at all levels are often called upon to address and motivate employees, customers, investors, vendors, and even members of the public – sometimes on the spur of the moment. Matthew’s JumpStart workshop explores the “Presentation Paradox,” the often overlooked need strike a balance between “preparation” and “presence.” This workshop emphasizes presence and presentation skills. Combining lectures packed with original insights gleaned from years of experience, interactive discussions, and experiential learning, Matthew’s JumpStart workshop stresses a natural, conversational style, the importance of one-on-one connection with audience members, and developing a spontaneous, in-the-moment presence. Matthew creates a safe, supportive environment and encourages participants to address the small group “audience” as often as possible.
Key components of the half-day
JumpStart program include:
- The Power of S.P.E.E.C.H.: The Six-Point Checklist for Powerful Presentations©. This section covers six fundamental elements of effective speeches and speaking skills.
- The Secrets of “Whole-Brain Speaking”: Traditional public speaking programs emphasize “Left Brain” functions – content, logic, information, performance, intellect, preparation. “Whole-Brain Speaking” leverages the “Right Brain” to enhance connection, presence, spontaneity, and authenticity.
- “Don’t Be Content With Content©”: The substance (or content) of a speech is not enough. Equally important – perhaps even more important – is the authenticity of the speaker and the connection he or she establishes with the audience. Here Matthew explores the paradox between presence and preparation.
